AUUMAN 2010 !!!

AUUMAN 2010 started at 3.00pm when AIESECers hit the beach near Paradise Hotel for an afternoon of sun and fun. It turned out that many were turned into bronze gods and goddesses but yours truly wasn't there to enjoy it :( He was busy waiting at home to collect his HP 210 mini netbook (more on that in the next post)

Anyhow, it was a night to remember when AIESECers were lauded for their achievements and contributions in the past year. Many alumnus and also three interns from Japan came as well to add to the festivities. Also, performances by Cynthia Chee and Daphne Lim roused the audiences with renditions of love songs such as Greatest Love of All (Whitney Houston) and There Was Me and You (Vanessa Anne Hudgens).

The food was mediocre at best. I had expected more from my RM 60.00. Yeah sure, the spread was nice and the ingredients weren't cheap but that's no substitute for poor culinary skills.

Among the award recipients for the night are:

All in all, it was a great night and the Organizing Committee had done an incredible job of making things happen that night. Kudos to you guys!

P.S. The MC should learn more from that night's experience. There's a LOOOOOT of room for improvement. :) and usual, clicking on the photos will lead you to the facebook album (except the awards).

Streamyx Cool Uni Pack

Streamyx had released a new package for 1st and 2nd year varsity students and to me it sound like a sweet deal. You get a net book: HP Mini 210 for a home-line broadband subscription from as low as RM50.00 a month. Currently there the installation fee is waived if if you already have home-line broadband with TM, just switch packages. I just hope TM upgrades the bandwidth and speed problems sometime in the future.

(Tip: Google DD-WRT or Tomato and bandwidth shaping. Note that I'm not responsible for whatever outcomes that derives from your choice of actions ;)

Here are the specs for the netbook. The HP Mini 210 will feature the 1.6GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU from the new Pineview range. It also has a 10.1-inch display, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB/250GB hard drive, a 6-cell battery, chicklet keyboard, webcam, 5-in-1 card reader, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and comes with Windows 7 Starter Edition. It will be available in a number of color options; Blue, Black, Red, Matte Black with Pattern, and Matte Silver with Pattern. You will also be able to enjoy full 1080p HD content playback with the use of the optional Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator (add on card).

And did I mention the pack comes with Streamyx Zone as well? To UUM students, Streamyx Zone is not available yet in the campus but a little birdie told me that it may be available in A2, C and Kachi soon.

Vote of Confidence

In order to move up the ranks in any true organization, a stringent selection process is definitely required. This usually starts with the Manifesto and then the personality tests. What comes next is the shocker: Vote of Confidence. A guy has to stand in front of a crowd of people who are either going to vote for or against him according to his speech of confidence. Almost EVERYTHING is up to the speaker to convince them that he can get the job done but he can't simply give empty promises either: he has to back them up with facts and the reality that the people that are going to vote for him already knows him means that he can't blatantly lie.

To pass, a guy has to get a 2/3 confidence vote from the voting members and...I PASSED (88-ish%)! Whew... Here's a copy of my presentation for those who are interested but mind you, there's nothing much in there, its just to assist me in getting my points across. It doesn't end there. There is also an interview (tonight) to determine whether I'm fit for any of the positions. Not all positions will be filled though as it may be left blank if no one suits that particular role. Currently, there are 13 seats up for grabs. Wish me luck!

Coffee!!!

Those who know me know my passion for coffee. Being a student, I can't (obviously) afford one of those new-fandangled espresso press machines or even a Vietnamese coffee drip. So... a friend of mine recently told me about this Japanese coffee (Blendy) that is kinda cute and inventive in its preparation method.

She was kind enough to get me a packet of 4 to try out. It.Was.Delicious! I'm not sure what blend it was but it reminded me a bit of Arabica. A word of caution though: no sugar and creamer added. Anyhow, now I can enjoy my caffeine fix in style :) Thanks Ying Huey!

New Ethos and New Article!

Here we go! This blog entry is dedicated to the first batch of interns to the RED Wave initiative held by AIESEC in UUM. RED Wave is a follow up of the successful "Are You Positive" campaign. Head on over to RED Wave UUM and join the cause!

Also, I've gained the habit of linking the pictures to facebook albums. This is much easier :)

Updates, updates, updates!

It's been a long time since I last posted. So here's a BIG update after the long hiatus!

Installed "Drag to share" feature on the blog (Try dragging any pic to see the effect)
Removed Blogumulus (Configuring it seemed to be a pain in the behind)
Added a link to RED Wave, a HIV/AIDS cause

Look out for future (frequent) posts!

Next up: Vote of Confidence and the first batch of RED Wave interns!
